This took me three working days to make, after a bazillion of layers worth of vector shapes (as seen here [link] ).
I used photoshop's pen tool exclusively, i personally dont like how illustrator handles blend effects. The vector shapes and generally on the 60-70% opacity levels with various blend modes on each of them, but my personal favorites are hard light and overlay  Daily DeviationGiven 2008-07-13Burning Water by *Quiccs is a vector portrait that uses interesting an opacity technique and vivid colors to make it stand out.
